Interactive Contour Tracing for OCAD6/7/8
Current Version 1.0
Author : Don Scarrott
Address : 5, Common Side, Distington, Cumbria, CA14 4PU, UK
Tel.: +44 1946 830 343
The bitmap to be traced is loaded as the template in the base map, and the BoxScan "Initialise" function stores its position, and divides it into parts to best fit the screen. A part is then converted to a brown extract which includes the contours and some clutter. The user selects a contour line, which turns purple, as the program attempts to trace it as far as possible. If it gets stuck in the clutter, there is an edit window where the offending pixels can be removed, and the line is re-traced. When good, the line is stored in a catalogue. Finally, the lines are Deposited" in the correct position in an output OCAD map by replaying the catalogue. This can be a quick and accurate method of tracing contours but does depend on the quality of the brown image obtained from the map, or original source.

It takes as input a list of controls and their coordinates and can produce either a picture of the best route or a list of controls in the right order. This version does not take into account of contours or terrain it just determines the shoretest distance. The program should not be used during a competitive rogaine but rather can help to educate you on route selection. It is free.

UTILITY PROGRAMS for OCAD5
Current Version 5.6
Author : Don Scarrott
Address : 5, Common Side, Distington, Cumbria, CA14 4PU, UK
Tel.: +44 1946 830343
Utility Programs for OCAD 5. Displays maps from directories.
Options to :
- minimise the tool box to only the symbols actually used - significantly reduces file sizes.
- change all tool box fonts to a different type face in one operation.
- automatically convert the text icons to a more easily identifiable symbol, name etc.
- split map on horizontal or vertical axis and recombine.
- cut out an irregular shape from a map and store both parts in separate files. Very useful for splitting maps along "natural" boundaries for surveying purposes, or extracting bits of maps to fill up spaces on the printing plate, or to use for specific competitions when the whole map is not required.
- extract any colour or combination of colours to a separate file.
- identify all symbols actually used on a map (to go in the legend).
- set the angle for tools back to the horizontal if they have been altered during a rotate operation.
- list the dimensions of some of the tools in the tool box.
-.set the print window more accurately than within the program.
- convert an OCAD5 map back to an OCAD4 version.
- extract any colour, or combination of colours, from a map to a new file.
- create a mirror image of a .OCD file. Useful for generating logos etc. which have an axis of symmetry.
- calculate the rotation, offset and scale reduction/enlargement necessary to get the same points on two different maps to fit. Applies these factors to one of the maps so it can be merged with the other map. Very useful when merging OCAD5 maps of adjacent areas.
- convert an ICON to an OCAD5 map with coloured squares. Sets the "map" in a box suitable for printing out as a label for a floppy disk.
- join contour ends exactly and connect part contours together to makes longer ones. Ends not joined are marked with brown blobs so that they can easily be spotted.
- compare the original OCAD5 base map with the finished version, and measure the proportion of the data which remains the same, old or new.
