World Ski Orienteering Championships: Double gold for Russia - and Lamov
Andrei Lamov, Russia, won his second gold medal in two days at the World Ski Orienteering Championships today. In the mass-start long distance race he beat his compatriot, multi gold medallist and defending champion Eduard Khrennikov, by just 9 seconds after almost 90 minutes of intense skiing in the Japanese hills. Bronze medallist, a further 36 seconds slower, was Olli-Markus Taivainen, Finland, who was the silver medallist in yesterday’s sprint.
In the women’s race it was again a Russian who won the gold medal. Anastasia Kravchenko had a lead at the finish of 47 seconds over Barbora Chudikova, Czech Republic. The sprint silver medallist, Sweden’s Helene Söderlund, took the bronze a further 7 seconds down. Defending champion Tatiana Vlasova, Russia finished sixth. The Czech team impressed with two of the first six into the finish.
